MURRELLS INSLET, SC (WMBF – After a February fire, the Dead Dog Saloon in Murrells Inlet has been rebuilt and is ready to receive customers once again.
Dead Dog buzzed with activity Wednesday, ahead of a private party that evening.
John Campbell, Dead Dog, stated that “we’ve got an invitation list of all those who helped us open, A&I and BB&T. Puckett Scheetz & Hogan. A lot of people who come in here every day, our regulars. Our customers who have been coming in here for years.”
The public is invited to the Dead Dog Saloon after the private party. Live music will be performed later in the evening.
The dead dog saloon will reopen on Thursday at 11 a.m.
There were many last-minute preparations on Wednesday. The employees worked hard to make sure everything was ready for soft opening.
Assistant Manger Robbie Hazelden said, “It seems like yesterday that we walked up to and there was nothing left.” “So it’s amazing what they’ve done.”
Reflecting the fast pace at which the rebuild went from day one, the last day of preparation was quite a feat. Rebuilding took just 83 days.
Campbell stated Wednesday afternoon that there is a “small hurricane” going on. He could hear it in the background. So, nothing’s easy. The deck has a new roof. It’s waterproof, so it’s going be a great night.
Locals and tourists love the restaurant. Haselden stated that once everything is in place, people will be able to see the changes immediately after they come back through the front doors.
It’s friendly to customers. It’s also very friendly for our staff,” he said. We can move. We can move around. There is plenty of space, many exit options and entrances. This building has everything you need.
However, the shaded tree of a popular tree on the back deck couldn’t be saved. Campbell saved parts of the tree to make artwork, such as a carved marlin which hangs above the main entrance to the covered deck. It is only one of many items that are now in place for the reopening.
Campbell stated Wednesday afternoon, “We’ll have everything ready tonight.” “We will not be finished. We will still have glue drying in some spots, but we’ll be ready to go, and we can’t wait.
Haselden stated that the community has shown tremendous support since the fire. He stated that many people had been waiting eagerly for the reopening of the restaurant. So just like he is happy to return to work, so too is he glad to welcome back customers.
He stated that he believes the turnout over the next few days will be “incredible.” “I don’t believe this Marsh Walk has ever seen a crowd like the one that’s coming.”
